Economics teaching, made easier

Find classroom-ready clips and teaching guides using Australian content and themes across microeconomics and macroeconomics.

Welcome to TeachEconAU.  I've been teaching first year economics to Australian university students for over 10 years.  I ask students why they are studying it and they tell me because they have to as part of their degree and they've left it as long as possible because economics is boring.

I love it when students throw down a challenge like that 🙂  To make economic interesting I've found using clips, quizzes and activities helps.  Plus making an effort to relate the economic theory to what is going on in the world.

There are some amazing teaching resources in America, some of the clips and content is fabulous but overseas examples don't always connect with local students. I wanted a space where abstract theories like monetary policy, market structures, and supply shocks could be explained using the real-world Australian stories our students see every day.  I collected my own set of clips and created lesson plans to go with them.  This website is basically a collection of the things I use.

I'm hoping that  by sharing ideas it can save teachers time, cut through the dry textbook jargon, and bring the Australian economy to life in the classroom. When I'm not curating clips or designing lesson guides, you can usually find me hanging out with my three wolfhounds or in the garden.
